Charizard

Image
How To Say It:  CHAR-iz-ard Type:  Fire-Flying Ability:  Blaze Hidden Ability:  Solar Power Possible Moves:  Flamethrower, Dragon Claw, Fire Blast, Fly Charizard seeks out stronger foes and only breathes fire during battles with worthy opponents. The fiery breath is so hot that it can turn any material to slag. And in case some of my blog viewers tell me that my blog shouldn't feature Charizard, since he's technically not a "Dragon-type Pokemon"... ...Now he is!

Sisu

Image
So, there's this new Disney movie coming out soon, called Raya and the Last Dragon , and it looks absolutely AWESOME! Of course, everyone who knows me would say that I am a huge  fan of any type of dragon, whether it's Chinese dragons, Japanese dragons, European dragons, or even Southeast Asian dragons, like the dragon from this movie happens to be. Her name is Sisu, and she is voiced by Asian comedian Awkwafina. Sisu is a goofy, young water dragon who can transform into a human, and is the last of her kind in existence. Let me just say that I cannot wait for this movie to be released on Disney+, because it looks like it's going to be absolutely amazing (and funny, considering a comedian voices Sisu the dragon). I just know I'm going to love it. Like I said, when it comes to movies about dragons, I'm all "shut up and take my money!" Anyway, here's a picture of the poster for this upcoming Disney movie, as well as some concept art of Sisu the last drag

Typhoomerang

Image
Species:  Typhoomerang Class:  Stoker Fire Type:  Cyclonic jets of flame Abilities:  Flaming Cyclone; Flaming corkscrew lunge; Immunity to Eel Pox; Eating eels to increase shot limit A forest-dwelling dragon of immense size, the Typhoomerang was the first new species of dragon discovered by the Berk Dragon Academy. However, with their large horns, massive wingspan, and their ability to disrupt vertical air pressure while exhaling flames to create fire tornadoes, the passionate and hot-tempered Typhoomerang has quickly asserted its position in the dragon hierarchy. A Typhoomerang doesn't just create a flaming spiral--it can turn into one itself! By pulling its large wings tightly over its body and descending from the stratosphere in a corkscrew fashion, a Typhoomerang can ignite its entire body and drill through the air to attack enemies!

Singetail

Image
Species:  Singetail Class:  Stoker Fire Type:  Scarlet flames Abilities:  Articulated eyes; Emitting fire from different body parts Fiercely territorial, Singetails don't just breathe fire--they send it blasting out of their jaws, gills, and tails. First discovered by Spitelout when he colonized Storehouse Island, the elusive Singetails prefer to scare away their enemies with long-range attacks, like hurling fireballs from their tails. However, Singetails also pose a danger in close-quarters combat by shunting jets of flame from their gills lining their exposed underbellies. No dragon or rider can ever get the drop on a Singetail due to its articulated eyes--they swivel to the sides and back of its head and give the Singetail a 360-degree lay of the land. Since it can look in two different directions at once, the Singetail can act as its own tailgunner.

Red Death

Image
Species:  Red Death Class:  Stoker Fire Type:  Methane  Abilities:  Emits a homing signal to control other dragons; Magma-proof skin; Vacuum mouth Secretly responsible for centuries of human and dragon conflict, the Red Death used its commanding presence to order other dragons to raid nearby villages bring it a constant supply of food. From its lair deep within the corona of a volcano, this Titan Wing reigned supreme, until Toothless led Stoick, Gobber, and other Berk Vikings to the blighted shores of Dragon Island. So engorged on power was the Red Death by this time that it had to shatter its mountain home in order to emerge and fight these human intruders. Fortunately, the timely arrival of Berk's dragon riders and the fateful reunion of Hiccup and Toothless led to the discovery of the Red Death's only vulnerable spot: its insides. Similar to the Bewilderbeast's ability to bend other dragons to its will, the Red Death emitted a homing signal, which summoned other dragons

Gruff

Image
Species:  Hobblegrunt Class:  Stoker Fire Type:  Ethane Expectorant Abilities:  Color-changing skin based on mood; Detecting frill; Altering other dragons' moods by changing its color One of Valka's dragon rescues, Gruff was blinded by a tree snare left by one of Drago Bludvist's trappers.  Fortunately, for Gruff, Valka and Cloudjumper located him during one of their dragon raids and freed the sightless Hobblegrunt, along with several other dragons. In fact, it was during this dragon jailbreak that Valka called upon her Bewilderbeast to destroy the trapper's fort, obliterating it in a blast of green ice and dispersing several of Drago's underlings, including Eret, Son of Eret.  Despite his inability to see, Gruff still lives a happy and productive life in the Bewilderbeast's arctic nest, thanks to the large fin crowning his head. As with other Hobblegrunts, this fin allows Gruff to sense his surroundings and react to incoming threats or obstacles a split-second

Fireworm Queen

Image
Species:  Fireworm Class:  Stoker Fire Type:  Firecomb: A topical and flammable gel Abilities:  White-hot skin; Queens have venom to reignite the flames of other Stoker Class dragons A Fireworm Queen lays thousands of eggs in her lifetime and builds a massive nest made of flammable gel known as "Firecomb" to house her many eggs. The only known Fireworm Queen lives on Fireworm Island, in the base of a dormant volcano. Her firecomb nest extends through multiple catacombs where she tends to her baby Fireworms. Like all mother dragons, the Queen is incredibly protective of her home and babies. While aggressive, the Fireworm Queen is not malicious. If an intruder returns stolen firecomb or backs off quickly, she might just let them leave in one piece. Although her sting is lethal to most humans and dragons, it actually possesses a restorative power for all Stoker Class dragons. One bite from a Fireworm Queen can reignite a Stoker's failing flames and bring them back to full fi

Smothering Smokebreath

Image
Species:  Smothering Smokebreath Class:  Mystery Fire Type:  Smoke and extremely hot air Abilities:  Creating a veil of smoke; Creating nests from metal Smothering Smokebreaths are elusive creatures that prefer to stay hidden. While not inherently aggressive, Smokebreaths will attack Vikings that intrude on their territory. Rather than breathe fire, these dragons instead exhale plumes of thick black smoke. Being communal creatures, these individual smoke clouds often combine into what appears to be a large fog bank. Many a Viking ship has been scuttled due to these dragon-made fog banks, which suits the Smokebreaths just fine, as they scavenge the wreckage for bits of metal to use in building their nests. The Smothering Smokebreaths' greatest hidden ability is actually their supernatural reputation. Entire Viking villages have cleared out at the sight of their unique black smoke, misattributing the haze to ghosts or fjord phantoms. With the village streets and homes empty, the Smot

Slitherwing

Image
Species:  Slitherwing Class:  Mystery Fire Type:  Venom spit Abilities:  Spilling poison secreted from the skin; Extremely foldable wings; Immunity to a Death Song's amber and call Giant, winged snakes with venomous scales and fangs, Slitherwings are truly the stuff of nightmares! As if one Slitherwing wasn't deadly enough, the poisonous dragons tend to hunt in packs. Like regular snakes, a Slitherwing's bright coloration indicates its venom level. The more colorful the Slitherwing, the deadlier the attack. These oversized serpents slither at top speeds, sedate prey with the toxins in their bites, and drag them back to their pit for dinner. Equally aggressive against Vikings and dragons, Slitherwings fear only one thing: Fire!

Sandbuster

Image
Species:  Sandbuster Class:  Mystery Fire Type:  Fusing blasts Abilities:  Burrowing Like a pirate protecting his treasure, the Sandbuster lurks under the Northern Markets' shores to guard its gold and sink any trespassers! The many criminals who frequent the Northern Markets are a dangerous lot, but even they know to keep away from the beaches. For years now, the Sandbuster has lived under those shores, amassing a valuable pile of gems and gold in its cave. Territorial and greedy, the Sandbuster burrows sinkholes in the ground that swallow up any humans foolish enough to tread near its riches. The dragon's only weakness is sunlight, which burns its sensitive scales in a matter of seconds.

Flightmare

Image
Species:  Flightmare Class:  Mystery Fire Type:  Paralyzing toxic mist Abilities:  Glows brighter when consuming glowing algae; Loud banshee-like scream; Can freeze victims with fear Like something out of a campfire ghost story, the Flightmare doesn't even seem like a real dragon. Emitting a banshee wail and glowing like a phantasm, the Flightmare has haunted Berkians for generations. The Flightmare's glow comes from its primary food supply, a unique type of algae that flows through the woods around the Isle of Berk. This algae glows with bioluminescence in the light of Aurvandil's Fire, a Northern Lights display that occurs every few years over Berk. When the Flightmare eats the algae, it also glows, giving it an unnatural appearance. The Flightmare's abilities are almost entirely defensive, so it can be overpowered when cornered or outnumbered by tougher dragons. Because of this, it has become a very territorial and short-tempered dragon, and incredibly protective ove

Sentinel

Image
Species:  Sentinel Class:  Boulder Fire Type:  Funeral pyre fire; Sonic screech Abilities: Wing blasts; Remaining motionless for days at a time; Extremely developed senses (except for sight); Hibernation Although sightless, the Sentinels still keep close watch over the dragon graveyard on the Isle of Vanaheim. Often mistaken for stone statues, the Sentinels remain absolutely still when they allow ailing dragons to enter Vanaheim. But at first hint of an intruder, these sentries defend the sacred burial ground with sonic screeches and downdraft wingblasts. Born blind, Sentinels have evolved their senses of hearing and smell to hyper-keen levels, making them incredibly alert. Yet, despite their fearsome appearance, Sentinels show a softer side by caring for the old and ill dragons who have come to spend their final days on Vanaheim.  If you're unsure on how to handle an unfamiliar type of dragon, just follow a Sentinel's lead. These observant dragons have kept vigil over every cl

Changewing

Image
Species:  Changewing Class:  Mystery Fire Type:  Hot, corrosive, viscous acid that can burn through wood, rock, and dragon-proof metal Abilities:  Camouflage; Prehensile tail; Hypnosis The chameleon-like Changewings are skilled predators and some of the deadliest dragons in the Book of Dragons. Their camouflaging skills are second to none, allowing them to blend in with rocks, trees, foliage, and even buildings. Additionally, Changewings often change colors based on their moods and surroundings. Instead of fire, they shoot hot, corrosive acid that burns through wood and rocks. They are also extremely agile and fast, even when moving along the ground. Changewings have a social structure similar to a lion pride. The female Changewings do most of the hunting and defense.

Cavern Crasher

Image
Species:  Cavern Crasher Class:  Mystery Fire Type:  Bright green fire Abilities:  Fitting through small spaces; Producing a special flammable mucus from its back; Burrowing The Cavern Crasher flings flammable mucus and scurries across underground catacombs in search of its favorite food: Firecomb! Single-minded and voracious, the Cavern Crasher may lack wings, but its body has adapted to live beneath the earth. With its reinforced beak and claws, this dragon climbs rock walls and hangs upside-down from stalactites. But the Cavern Crasher's most dangerous feature, by far, is its ability to secrete and eject slick mucus from the bulbous ducts on its back and then set it ablaze!

Buffalord

Image
Species:  Buffalord Class:  Mystery Fire Type:  Exploding, uncontrollable flames Abilities:  Inflating its body to an immense size; Shooting spines from any part of its body; Extremely potent saliva Although it's been hunted to near extinction, the benevolent Buffalord holds the only cure to the lethal disease known as the Scourge of Odin. Once roaming across the archipelago in large herds, the Buffalord now lives a solitary existence grazing in peace and secreting a green drool with amazing curative properties. As such, this exceedingly rare dragon would fetch a hefty price at any auction. Fortunately, the Buffalord has no interest in leaving its grassy plains and will keep any hunter at bay with its abilities: firing the many spikes studding its hide and doubling its size by inflating!

Shellfire

Image
Species:  Shellfire Class:  Tidal Fire Type:  Cannonball-sized plasma charges Hidden Abilities:  Expelling red algae from gills; Swimming in great depths An enormous deep-sea dweller with crustacean attributes, the Shellfire glides through the ocean at incredible speeds and tows the Dragon Hunter battleship bolted to its back. Reminiscent of a much larger--much angrier--horseshoe crab, the Shellfire shrugs off attacks with its durable carapace and delivers devastation with its protruding prong horns. In the past, unwitting sailors used to mistake its sizable shell for a landmass and scuttle their ships on it. That was the last time anyone ever heard from those sailors, but rumors of their demise likely gave Viggo Grimborn the idea to fasten a metal dragon hunting warship to the Shellfire's back.

Scauldron

Image
Species:  Scauldron Class:  Tidal Fire Type:  Scalding/boiling hot water Abilities:  Venom; Immunity to the Blue Oleander; Electroreception Patient and organized strategists by nature, Scauldrons are one of the few dragons known to prey on other dragons. Scauldrons hunt in groups, or pods, and have picked off smaller species to near-extinction. Although a Scauldron has never been seen to shoot flames, the few Vikings who have survived encounters with the fearsome sea dragons have reported smelling traces of the signature flammable gas that precedes a dragon fire strike. Instead, Scauldrons scoop up water in their gullets (like pelicans), then boil it internally and shoot the boiling-hot water out again. With its long neck, the Scauldron has a long firing range and can blast an entire ship in a matter of seconds. Being ocean-based, the Scauldron will not typically attack on land. In fact, if a Scauldron is out of water for too long, its body will dry out and eventually perish unless it

Screaming Death

Image
Subspecies:  Screaming Death Parent Species:  Whispering Death Class:  Boulder Fire Type:  Gatling concentrated rings of fireballs Born every one hundred or so years, the Screaming Death has all the strengths of its subordinate cousin, the Whispering Death, with none of its weaknesses. It is the most powerful dragon Berk has faced since the Red Death. Unlike the Whispering Death, this dragon has no aversion to sunlight. In fact, young Screaming Deaths are drawn to bright light. Attraction to light wears off as the dragon gets older. It shoots large spines from its tail and can breath massive amounts of fire in a single blast, but the Screaming Death's real strength is its insatiable appetite. Like the Whispering Death, the Screaming Death likes to tunnel, consuming sea stacks and decimating entire islands. An adolescent Screaming Death nearly destroyed the town of Berk, and when it grew into adulthood, it nearly ate all of Dragon Island (along with five other islands before that).

Catastrophic Quaken

Image
Species:  Catastrophic Quaken Class:  Boulder Fire Type:  Magma slobber from trifurcated jaws Abilities:  Curling into a ball; Creating shockwaves The Catastrophic Quaken can smash into the ground and create huge shockwaves that can knock dragons out of the air. As a Boulder Class dragon, the Catastrophic Quaken is literally what it eats--as it enjoys the consumption of rocks. This dietary preference is the cause for its tendency to reside in rocky terrain, where it can roam afoot and pick up sustenance as it travels. Strong and hulking, this dragon relies on its size as the ultimate defense mechanism. When threatened, its immediate reaction is to enter protective mode and roll into a ball like a giant armadillo. Once secured into this position, it quickly takes the offense, smashing into the ground to create huge shockwaves that will knock dragons down, whether they are on land or airborne. A lack of human interaction has made these dragons cautionary over time, but since Hiccup and t

Razorwhip

Image
Species:  Razorwhip Class:  Sharp Fire Type:  Bright blue fire Abilities:  Sharp and telescopic prehensile tail that can be used as a whip; Poisonous tears; Shooting tail barbs One single blade of the Razorwhip's tail is as deadly as the sharpest battle-axe. Arguably one of the most dangerous dragons the riders have ever faced, the Razorwhip has an aggressive and deadly nature. It has a barbed, telescopic tail that can squeeze the life out of any Viking or dragon, or slice anything it comes into contact with to pieces. It is so dangerous that even the tears from its eyes are poisonous. It is extremely agile and maneuvers incredibly well. Its only known vulnerability is its propensity to eat sea slugs. Razorwhips are reclusive by choice, due to extreme mistrust of both humans and dragons. However, those who are able to prove their worthiness to a Razorwhip will have made a powerful friend and ally for life. The first Razorwhip encountered by the Dragon Riders is Windshear, who has t

Speed Stinger

Image
Species:  Speed Stinger Class:  Sharp Fire Type:   None Abilities:  Paralyzing Sting; Incredible Night Vision; Water Running The Velociraptors of the dragon world, Speed Stingers are fast, aggressive and intelligent. They use coordinated attacks, moving in packs of dozens at a time, all lead by the Lead Speed Stinger. Speed Stingers have wings, but they are small and undeveloped, so this species is essentially flightless. Confined to land, they rely on ice bridges and glaciers to move from place to place in search of food, although some species members have evolved with webbed claws. They are the fastest dragon on land. While other dragons such as Nadders and Night Furies can outfly them, no one can outrun a Speed Stinger.  Stingers are nocturnal dragons and typically seek shelter in caves or tunnels to avoid predators while sleeping. The Lead Speed Stinger is identifiable by its red wings and red stripes along his body (in contrast to the uniform green of a regular Speed Stinger). Spe

Grim Gnasher

Image
Species:  Grim Gnasher Class:  Sharp Fire Type:  Teeth darts Hidden Abilities:  Regenerating and shooting teeth; Immunity to Slitherwing venom Despite their relatively small size, Grim Gnashers love nothing more than to sink their thousands of teeth into weaker dragons. Sneaky and opportunistic, Grim Gnashers circle above their injured prey like carrion birds. Even though they hunt in packs, Grim Gnashers prefer to feast on a dragon that can't defend itself, rather than take on a healthy dragon. Yet Grim Gnashers are just as deadly with their long-range attacks. Possessing a shark-like ability to regenerate row after row of sharp teeth, these dragons spit out fiery blasts of fangs with remarkable precision and accuracy. But perhaps the most dangerous thing about Grim Gnashers is their ability to plan and communicate with each other to outsmart their quarry.

Submaripper

Image
Species:  Submaripper Class:  Tidal & Tracker Fire Type:  Harpoon-studded debris Abilities:  Creating whirlpools and tidal waves Charybdis. The Kraken. Sea Serpents. For centuries, frightened sailors have told tales of a beast that could turn the very oceans against them--if only they knew how right those myths were!  The Submaripper dragon whips up whirlpools by creating vortex in its mouth and starts tsunamis when its massive body breaches the water's surface like a whale. Yet, the Submaripper only unleashes these defenses when attacked by foolish Vikings and when it encounters its natural enemy, the Shellfire!

Triple Stryke

Image
Species:  Triple Stryke Class:  Strike Fire Type:  Continuous streams of highly concentrated orange flames Hidden Abilities:  A Triple Stryke's braided tail is a force to be reckoned with, but each tail produces a unique venom: A sting from the first tail numbs combatants, the second disorients them with mild hallucinogens, and the third creates an agonizing sensation of burning in your very blood! Vicious. Aggressive. Belligerent. These are only three of the words that describe the Triple Stryke in battle and the incredible fury it unleashes with its trio of braided tails. Displaying an ornery disposition from the beginning of their lives, Triple Strykes make the ideal champions in underground combat arenas. With their barbed hides that deflect attacks, their intense fire blasts that blind opponents, and their tail triad that braids into a single, powerful weapon, a Triple Stryke wins most bouts on intimidation alone. But victory sometimes breeds vanity and exploiting this overcon

Snow Wraith

Image
Class:  Strike Fire Type:  Frost Fusillade Abilities:  Snow Wraiths have thermal vision that allows them to track prey even in the most blustery blizzard. Snow Wraiths have no known vulnerabilities, making them a supremely formidable force to be reckoned with during battle. The Snow Wraith has proven to be crucial to the Dragon Riders, as their teeth are the sole tool that can unlock the informative Dragon Eye device. These dragons were first discovered by Gothi during an expedition to Glacier Island, the only known habitat of the Snow Wraiths. Over time, Snow Wraiths have adapted to these desolate conditions in surprising ways, such as their all-white coloration that allows for natural camouflage in snowy conditions, and an ability to grip ice using claws on their wings and tails.

Spyro

Image
That purple blur that just whizzed past your eyes isn't your imagination--it's Spyro, maybe the greatest Skylander of all time. Who else can breathe fire, fly like an acrobat through the air, and tell a joke all at the same time? You want a friend like Spyro on your side--because he'll jump right into danger without thinking twice. Which might explain why he finds himself in over his head more than he'd care to admit. Could a Skylander this cocky and impulsive really be the "Chosen One" like Master Eon believes? Only one way to find out...

Terrible Terror

Image
Species:  Terrible Terror Class:  Stoker Personality:  Inquisitive and curious animals; their only downfall is their territorial in-fighting. Known to sing on the rooftops of Berk. One of the smallest of all the known dragons. But don't let its tiny stature fool you. This pesky dragon has caused Vikings all sorts of problems, especially considering their affinity to travel in groups from five to upwards of ten. They also pack a pretty lethal puff of fire if you upset them.

Night Terror

Image
Species:  Night Terror Class:  Stoker Personality:  Shy at first, but great as allies once trust is built While these nocturnal, bat-like dragons may not seem menacing on their own, Night Terrors are a formidable force to be reckoned with when united. Night Terrors are incredibly fast and strong fliers, and their ability to take the form of a larger dragon makes them a great threat to potential predators. As a result, they are quite useful serving as sentries of Dragon's Edge. Similar to other dragons who travel in packs, Night Terrors respond to an alpha, a slightly larger white dragon who is leader of all the others. Without the alpha, the strength of the Night Terrors is lost and they become easy prey.

Hookfang

Image
Species:  Monstrous Nightmare Class:  Stoker Personality:  Incendiary in temperament and short on patience, Hookfang would rather ignite 1st and think 2nd. Dragon Team:  Snotlout is Hookfang's human companion. Hookfang and Snotlout have a...complicated relationship. Whereas most dragons obey their rider's commands, Hookfang often enjoys doing the opposite of what Snotlout says. However, despite their occasional disagreements, Snotlout and Hookfang are both warriors at heart and work very well together in combat or competition with other dragon riders.

Dramillion

Image
Species:  Dramillion Class:  Mystery Personality:  Imitative Although normally withdrawn and wary of humans, Dramillions mimic the fire blasts of any type of dragon they encounter. With their striking coloration, peaked crowns, and curved beaks, Dramillions have often been called the parrots of the dragon world. But the similarity extends beyond the surface level, for these uncanny creatures can also repeat any kind of dragon fire they see. The Dramillion duplicates blasts that look--and burn--like the real thing. It's no wonder then, that Dragon Hunters once forced Dramillions to reproduce their many fire forms for training drills. Dramillions have the highest shot count of any dragon species by far. But even these copycats will hit empty after enough blasts. Fortunately, Dramillions can also transfer flames to each other. If one runs out of heat, the rest of the pack will share their reserves with the spent Dramillion so it can fire up again!

Death Song

Image
Species:  Death Song Class:  Mystery Personality:  Enticing and siren-like, this species of dragon is decidedly solitary. Rather than shooting fire, the Death Song spits thick amber-like substance at its prey to form an impenetrable cocoon. Although deceptively beautiful in appearance and melody, the Death Song has a lethal quality that is reminiscent of the Black Widow. Inhabiting a lush island beyond the archipelago, this dragon vocalizes its beautiful and hypnotic siren call in order to lure other dragons, which it then targets as prey. Rather than using fire to attack, the Death Song shoots out a liquid substance which traps and preserves victims as it hardens into a stiff amber cocoon that is penetrable only by flame. Typically, the Death Song chooses to entrap dragons only, but it also preys upon any humans unfortunate enough to make their way to its island. Its key weaknesses are Thunderdrums, which find themselves mostly immune to the Death Song's lethal lullaby due to poor

Snaptrapper

Image
Species:  Snaptrapper Class:  Mystery Personality:  Temptation and terror to the fourth power While as beautiful and serene as an exotic flower upon first blush, the four-headed Snaptrapper is actually one of the most insidious and deadly dragons ever discovered. Upon opening their triple-split jaws, Snaptrappers release a sweetly intoxicating scent, stimulating hunger in nearby dragons and humans. When the unlucky victim goes foraging through the deceitful dragon's leaf-like wings and fins, the Snaptrapper unfurls and strikes!

Armorwing

Image
Species:  Armorwing Class:  Mystery Personality:  Metal-plated plunderer Sitting atop its hoarded pile of looted metal on Iron Isle, the Armorwing dragon appears at once impregnable and invincible, but appearances can be deceiving.  With its welding torch-like flames and chain-whip tail, the Armorwing keeps enemies at bay long enough for it to attract new scraps of metal to its magnetic body and fuse them into an ever-expanding coat of armor. However, that armor is just a shell used for protection and intimidation. Beneath that reinforced hide lies a much different dragon that would prefer to remain in isolation with its private trove of discarded metal treasures.

Barf and Belch

Image
Species:  Hideous Zippleback Class:  Mystery Personality:  Truly a split personality! Barf and Belch are each fiercely independent, yet inextricably linked. Dragon Team:  Ruffnut and Tuffnut are Barf and Belch's trainers and riders. Much like the twins who ride them, Barf and Belch spend more time bickering than working in concert.  The only time they do see eye-to-eye, however, is when enjoying a nice display of destruction--usually caused by Ruffnut and Tuffnut!

Valka's Bewilderbeast

Image
Species:  Bewilderbeast Class:  Tidal Personality:  The benevolent and leonine king of all dragons As with all members of the animal kingdom, dragons, too, must follow a hierarchy of power and leadership. At the apex of that chain of command rules an exceedingly rare alpha dragon to which all others bow--the Bewilderbeast. However, Bewilderbeasts are not born to that alpha status; it is earned through combat, vigilance and, most importantly, a desire to protect the dragons in its nest. Fortunately for the Bewilderbeasts, there are few other dragons in the world that can match their intimidating stature and ever hope to compete for the designation of "king of all dragons."

Drago's Bewilderbeast

Image
Species:  Bewilderbeast Class:  Tidal Personality:  Scarred and bred for battle Found as a hatchling during one of Drago Bludvist's earliest conquests, this particular Bewilderbeast suffered the misfortune of being raised by a madman. Unlike Hiccup or Valka's warm and empathic approach with dragons, Drago routinely abused his Bewilderbeast to cull out any perceived weaknesses and to establish a blind loyalty to the self-proclaimed "Dragon God." What emerged from this torturous crucible was Drago's perfect secret weapon: A vicious Bewilderbeast that has known nothing but hatred and a single goal...to end the reign of Valka's alpha Bewilderbeast once and for all.

Thunderdrum

Image
Species:  Thunderdrum Class:  Tidal Personality:  Strident and assertive, the loud Thunderdrum always makes its feelings known. Instead of breathing fire, the Thunderdrum produces a strong, concussive sound that can kill a human at close range. The blast is so powerful that the dragon is said to "get its power from Thor himself." Legend also has it that when a Thunderdrum hatches from its egg, it makes a sound so loud it rattles the sky!

Seashocker

Image
Species:  Seashocker Class:  Tidal Personality:  Masters of the sneak attack Supremely furtive, Seashockers share attributes with many of the ocean's most extraordinary creatures: the morphology of a manta ray, the sonar of a dolphin, and the bioluminescence of a deep dweller. Similar to Hideous Zipplebacks, Seashockers also possess two heads. But unlike their airborne cousins, Seashockers only have one thing on their twin brains: predation. If you ever see their dark fins amongst the waves, it's already too late for you--the rest of their pod has already moved in to attack! Being water-based dragons, Seashockers do not breathe fire. Instead, their bites paralyze victims with an electrical charge that stuns even the biggest prey into submission. Perhaps this is the reason why all dragons fear the Seashocker's closest evolutionary relative--the electric eel!

Whispering Death

Image
Species:  Whispering Death Class:  Boulder Personality:  Blindly aggressive and capable of holding a grudge like no other dragon Constantly hungry and always burrowing for unwitting food, the Whispering Death is one dragon that actually prefers being on the ground (or, more accurately, under it) to flying freely across the skies. Although plagued with poor eyesight and a terrible sense of direction that often gets them lost, Whispering Deaths more than make up for these weak points with their multiple rows of buzz-saw teeth that can bore through any solid material, including rock. It is this signature drilling power that creates the hushed rumbling sound which always announces a Whispering Death before it bursts out of the earth to attack.

Eruptodon

Image
Species:  Eruptodon Class:  Boulder Personality:  Volcanic and valiant Revered as a "great protector," the Eruptodon eats the lava from inside Caldera Cay's volcano to defend the Defenders of the Wing! With its craggy, igneous hide, heat-shielded eyes, and endless appetite for magma, the Eruptodon prefers to live inside volcanoes to be nearer to his main food source. This natural give and take between Geology and dragon protects the Defenders of the Wing from catastrophe and, as a result, the warrior tribe worships their loyal Eruptodon. Although not much of a fighter, the Eruptodon provides tremendous damage control by eating any runaway lava--even if it's been regurgitated by Gronckles!

Meatlug

Image
Species:  Gronckle Class:  Boulder Personality:  Exceedingly demonstrative and sweet, yet quite self-conscious despite her thick hide Dragon Team:  Fishlegs is Meatlug's human companion. Unlike other Gronckles, Meatlug is actually a very sweet and affectionate dragon, especially with her rider, Fishlegs. Meatlug and Fishlegs do everything together--fly, research dragon trivia and, of course, eat!

Grump

Image
Species:  Hotburple Class:  Boulder Personality:  A loyal, lava-launching helper...when he isn't napping Dragon Team:  Gobber is Grump's stubborn human rider. Grump is not a Gronckle. He's a related, but different breed of Boulder Class dragon known as a Hotburple. Like a Gronckle, a Hotburple also makes lava slugs out of molten minerals, but he prefers iron ore over the Gronckle's love of rocks. As such, he eats the scraps around Gobber's stall and keeps the forge fired up with molten loogies. Personality-wise, he's like a walrus--a loud, fussy, lazy lay-about who snores obnoxiously and easily falls asleep at any given moment, even while flying. He's always in the way in Gobber's stall, and he's the perfect match for Gobber's put-upon attitude. They banter like an old married couple. Otherwise, he's a lot like a Gronckle in most other ways.

Timberjack

Image
Species:  Timberjack Class:  Sharp Personality:  Modest serenity balanced with fierce protection of their riders Native to dense, wooded areas, Timberjacks are acutely sensitive creatures that prefer the peace and solace found in their beloved forests. But don't let their introspective nature fool you. When attacked, betrayed, or offended, Timberjacks will start flailing their expansive wings, whose edges are razor-sharp...sharp enough to shear through the thickest tree trunk and still not slow down a Timberjack's flight!

Cloudjumper

Image
Species:  Stormcutter Class:  Sharp Personality:  Proud and confident Dragon Team:  Valka is Cloudjumper's long-time human partner. The owl-like Cloudjumper has been Valka's companion of choice for flying and rescuing other dragons over the last twenty years. Cloudjumper's pride, confidence, and large size lead him to think of himself as the top dragon in Valka's mountain fortress, second only to the Bewilderbeast, who is the king of all dragons in the nest. Due to their two decades of experience together, Valka and Cloudjumper share a wordless shorthand when flying. Whereas other dragon riders need to call out commands to turn or shoot, Cloudjumper instinctively knows when Valka wants him to move or attack, adding to their combined mystique and prowess in battle.

Skullcrusher

Species:  Rumblehorn Class:  Tracker Personality:  Doggedly determined when he's caught a scent Dragon Team:  Stoick is Skullcrusher's human rider. From the Rumblehorn species, Skullcrusher is part of a previously undiscovered class--tracker class, being that he's the bloodhound of dragons. He can find anything on scent, like when he found Hiccup in Valka's nest based only on Hiccup's lost helmet. Skullcrusher looks like a truffle pig mixed with a rhino, but much bigger. He has the chitinous green-red iridescent coloring of a scarab beetle and keeps his battle axe-shaped muzzle in the dirt, sniffing things out.

Species:  Deadly Nadder Class:  Tracker Personality:  Precise and cunning in battle, yet warm and affectionate with friends old and new Dragon Team:  Astrid is Stormfly's human teammate, trainer, and best friend. Although she preens and grooms herself like the most fastidious of birds, Stormfly actually possesses a playful spirit. Whether it's winning dragon races with Astrid or fetching shiny objects, Stormfly is as game for a fun time as she is deadly in battle!

Skrill

Image
Species:  Skrill Class:  Strike Personality:  Belligerent and as unpredictable as lightning strikes One of the most mysterious and feared species in the Book of Dragons, the Skrill is aggressive, powerful, and nearly untrainable. Skrills do not breathe fire. Instead, they channel lightning down their metallic spines, firing it from their mouths in a shower of destructive blasts. They can also store this electrical power and release it later on. Because of this unique firepower, Skrills tend to gravitate towards stormy weather. If you find yourself flying through a lightning storm, watch out! Skrills are also tough. They can take a lot of damage in battle and give as good as they get. However, the Skrill has one weakness...it cannot fire its lightning from the water. Force a Skrill into the ocean and it loses the upper hand.

Light Fury

Species:  Light Fury Class:  Strike Personality:  The feline-like Light Fury is gentle and playful by nature, like Toothless, but fiercely protective when danger is present. The Light Fury moves as fast as Toothless and shares his ability to blend into the sky--even during daylight hours. With her white coloration, the Light Fury hides seamlessly in clouds, sea fog, and distant horizons. Although skittish and skeptical, the Light Fury also shares Toothless' deep sense of empathy and will always wield her plasma blast to defend any in need.
